Experimental campaigns and physics of interest

The experiments with the Neutron Wall have mostly been organised as campaigns of several consecutive experimental runs. The physics of interest has mainly been the structure of proton-rich nuclei along the N=Z line with mass numbers from about A=30 to A=100. Most of the experiments have used stable heavy-ion beams and fusion-evaporation reactions. Two experiments with radioactive beams were also performed, for studies of neutron correlations in the halo nuclei ⁶He and ⁸He.

Current activity

The Neutron Wall is currently and since 2005 located at GANIL in France. It is set-up at the G2 beam line and has been used there in 9 exeriments, 8 of them together with the EXOGAM gamma-ray spectrometer. Seven of the experiments were run with the DIAMANT light charged particle detector and two with a Si CD detector system. One of the experiments did not use EXOGAM but used instead additional neutron detectors from the EDEN setup. Two of the experiments have used radioactive ion beams while 9 experiments have used stable heavy-ion beams.

Future plans

One EXOGAM + DIAMANT + Neutron Wall experiment is planned to be run at GANIL in October 2014. After this experiment, the Neutron Wall will be moved to INFN-LNL for experiments with the GALILEO gamma-ray spectrometer and back to GANIL again in 2016 for experiments with AGATA.
